With reference to the movie “The meshes of the afternoon”

Form Exploration

This composition consists of all the important elements that were there in the film. The most intriguing feature of this movie was that all these elements had a meaning attached to them. Starting with the flower, it symbolizes feminism because just like a flower every women is beautiful and in context with the film it is therefore connected with death and sexuality. The eyes here represent the multiple reincarnations (different sides of women which she observes and interacts with. Further the stairs symbolized the pathway to dreams, success, glory etc to which the women are equally entitled to but are always held back by the society. Moving on, as this film gave a message that how difficult it is for a women to live in a patriarchy. Thus, it had some elements like the cloaked figure and the knife that clearly represent that how the society tries to control women and stabs all their hopes and aspirations. The women here is the shown just like any other ambitious women who is unhappy by the norms being laid upon them and are not free to express their views and get out of the forceful toxic relationships just because they are made to realize every time that their leash is in the hands of the society. Lastly, the shattered glass symbolizes the death of expectations, desires and hopes of a women.

Composition as per the mood

Black’s most common association is power, authority, and strength. Here referring to the male dominated society and forces opposing women. White is considered safe and open. While black is symbolic of evil, white is directly linked to that which is righteous, good and peaceful. Thus, symbolizing the aspirations of women. Gray is the color of intellect and of compromise. It’s a diplomatic color, negotiating all the distance between black and white. It in the movie can also be a symbol of refined, dignified and understated elegance of the women. Gray can be perceived as emotionally distant or disconnected, and it’s associated with morally questionable matters as well.

Composition as per the passive mood

In this composition I have used ‘orange’ colour which represent feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and warmth that are possessed by all women. Yellow is absolutely invigorating. Here, yellow represents courage to endure and be hopeful, cheerful and optimistic. Purple here can be seen to represent the gloom, sadness, powerlessness, the forceful dependability and stark emptiness that a female can feel yet mysterious. Freedom, imagination, expansiveness, inspiration and sensitivity are the feelings symbolized by blue. Red here tells us about the will power, rage and anger with which a women is filled because of being oppressed.
